Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to see Dr Bryan.

What can I expect from my Skin Cancer Check?

Patients usually get undressed down to their underwear to ensure adequate exposure. A modesty gown is available at your convenience. Dr Bryan systematically checks your entire body from head to toe, including the scalp and nails for suspicious skin lesions. Prior to your appointment it is important not to wear make up or tinted moisturiser and remove all nail polish. Lesions of interest will be photographed and kept securely in your medical record. You may need to return for a subsequent review appointment or biopsy. If this is the case Dr Bryan will discuss this with you on the day.

How often should I get my skin checked?

Adults with average risk of skin cancer should have their skin checked annually. If you have increased risk of skin cancer a full check up every 3 to 6 months may be necessary. Dr Bryan will discuss follow up during your initial appointment.

I am worried about a spot. Should I have it checked even if I am not due for my routine Skin Cancer Check?

Skin cancers can arise between Skin Check appointments. If you are ever worried about a spot Dr Bryan would like to see you and you should promptly make an appointment.
